We are truly fortunate to have access to a wide array of expertise in the conservation and ecology of northeastern Illinois nature. Here, in no particular order, are links to some of the places you may find interesting, informative and just plain entertaining.
Change is coming!
For many years, our quarterly newsletter Brushpiles has been an important communication tool for NBRP. First and foremost, it was the way we let people know about workdays and other important events. We also used it as an education tool, allowing us to broadly share information about restoration, ecology, and other subjects of interest. And of course, it was an important way to reach out to people with an invitation to join in the inspiring work that we do.
While we still hold to those goals – publication of the workday schedule; education; and outreach – we’ve thought about how best to achieve them. Clearly, printing and mailing hard copies of Brushpiles uses up valuable resources, both dollars and supplies. We’ve been gratified that a number of people have chosen to help us save money and trees by signing up to receive Brushpiles electronically.
Now we’re going one step further. Many people now bypass the email route completely and simply visit our website directly for information. So our Publications group has decided on a new approach, using internet technology to our advantage.
We will no longer produce a quarterly newsletter as such. The workday schedules and events will be posted on our website. And there is now a “printable schedule” link at the bottom of the calendar page, for easy printing of the workdays.
Our website has a number of pages with in-depth discussion of various topics of interest. We will continue to add to those topics.
Having relieved ourselves of the irksome quarterly deadlines, we will instead produce issues of the North Branch News (NBN) as the occasions arise. The first issue came out in July 2008 and is posted here. While there may be occasions when we decide to print and mail hard copies of NBN, that will be the exception rather than the rule.
So we hope that you find this a convenient way to get the information you want. If you have suggestions or comments, please click on the Contact Us link at the bottom of each page. |
