Martin Luther King Day
Every third Monday of January is a federal holiday and Day of Service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. We’re celebrating the Day at Bunker North Flatwoods this coming Monday January 21st from 10am to 1pm. We’ll be burning several leftover brushpiles. We’ll cut more invasive brush and add it to fire. And we’ll take time out to share treats and good conversation.
Bunker North Flatwoods gets its cathedral-like character from the large old pin oaks that dominate the canopy. Join the North Branch Restoration Project and Centennial Volunteers as we restore this oak woodland to health! This 76 acre site is new to restoration and will depend on the community of volunteers to remove invasive species, spread native seed, and much more. The preserve is also home to some beautiful spring ephemerals.
Directions: Enter the preserve from Harts Road, just west of Touhy and Caldwell. The approximate address is 6600 W Harts Road in Niles, IL.
