Thank you so much, CVS!

Somme Prairie Nature Preserve stewards are working on eradicating the last of invasive European Buckthorn that forms a barrier all around the edges of the preserve. In September, an energetic group of CVS employees came out to lend a hand in the work, opening up a swath along the west edge of the prairie. Just a few days later, a big group of high school students from Loyola Academy and Deerfield HS came and finished clearing the area.

Buckthorn gone, thanks to CVS, Loyola Academy and Deerfield HS.

We’ll plant this area with seed gathered from local native plants. Like other North Branch preserves that are being restored, Somme Prairie will once again flourish, rich in native wildflowers, grasses, birds and other wildlife.
