Somme Prairie Grove

Somme Prairie Grove is a mosaic of prairie, savanna, and woodland. Flowers and grasses such as purple milkweed, cream gentian, bottlebrush grass, and Joe Pye weed contribute to its high quality. Indian grass, rattlesnake master, wild quinine, and purple prairie clover thrive in its open areas. Rare birds and butterflies once again populate its prairies and groves. The workday meeting place is the Forest Preserve parking lot on the north side of Dundee, just east of Waukegan Road.
